How to Care For and Love Your Bamboo Products

Bamboo being one of the fastest growing plants on Earth, with many species growing up to 8-10 feet within 4-6 weeks, makes it a perfect alternative material.

While at Hybrid Hippie we are working on rolling out a larger range of products crafted with bamboo, currently our Bamboo Travel Cutlery Sets, Bamboo Straws, Toothbrushes and Ear Swabs are made using the finest organic bamboo sourced from multiple locations around Asia. Following our tips on how to care for your reusable bamboo products would prolong its life and make sure that they always look as beautiful as they should.

Bamboo Care Guide

Bamboo Travel Cutlery Sets

1) We recommend that all bamboo products are only hand-washed. As a natural material, the heat in a dishwasher may impact its properties.
2) Do not leave them to soak in water for prolonged periods, as bamboo is naturally porous and may get mouldy.
3) Be sure to wash and dry your bamboo cutlery soon after use to make sure that they last long… really long!
4) At any point if you feel your bamboo cutlery is losing its luster, rub them on with some food-grade mineral oil and let them absorb the oil for a few hours. We recommend coconut or walnut oil.
5) For a thorough clean, you may soak the cutlery for a few minutes in a pot of boiling water with a tablespoon of vinegar.

Bamboo Straws

1) We recommend that bamboo straws are hand washed only. You may use the included coconut fibre cleaning brush to clean the straws thoroughly.
2) Do not leave them to soak in water for prolonged periods, as bamboo is naturally porous and may get mouldy.
3) Be sure to wash and dry your bamboo straws soon after use to make sure that they last long.
4) If your straw retains any flavor or smells after a few uses, you may soak the straws for a few minutes in a pot of boiling water with a tablespoon of vinegar.

Bamboo Toothbrushes

1) It is recommended by dentists that toothbrushes are changed every 3 months.
2) Be sure to thoroughly dry the handles and bristles after every use, to ensure that your toothbrush stays happy and healthy.
3) Do not leave them to soak in water for prolonged periods, as bamboo is naturally porous and may get mouldy.
4) Store the toothbrush in a dry place after use – whether a toothbrush holder, or a cup that does not retain water at its base.
5) Once the lifetime of your toothbrush has ended, you can add the brush to your home compost pit or even bury it in the soil – but, be sure to pluck out the bristles before you add it to the compost. The nylon bristles must be disposed in the plastic recycling bin.

All of our bamboo products are 100% bio-degradable and compostable. Bamboo usually take a few months to naturally degrade in the environment and once again becomes part of earth.
